Alabama offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic outlined the mindset his offensive line needs as they prepare to face Missouri’s defense. The offensive line, which allowed 49 sacks last season—ranking among the worst in FBS—was a major question mark entering this season. While Alabama’s offensive line hasn’t been elite in the first seven games, Kapilovic, who was hired during Alabama’s turbulent offseason, has guided the unit to improvement, with only 15 sacks allowed, placing them in the top half of the SEC.
Kapilovic emphasized that daily focus on techniques and details is key to his group’s progress. “I constantly harp on techniques and details,” he said. “It’s about blocking your man and finishing. If all five guys keep their men from making plays 80-90% of the time, we have a chance to succeed. I want to see more effort and finish.”
Looking ahead to the matchup against Missouri, Kapilovic praised the Tigers’ defense, which is led by defensive coordinator Corey Batoon. He noted similarities between Batoon’s 4-2-5 scheme and Alabama’s own defense but also pointed out some unique characteristics of Missouri’s defensive front. “They’re talented, with good length on the edges and big players inside,” Kapilovic said. “They play through the whistle, showing high effort, and that’s something we need to match.”
Kapilovic stressed that facing strong defensive fronts is a constant challenge in the SEC, and building confidence through winning battles is essential. “If you lose a play, it’s not about dwelling on it. It’s about learning from it and fixing the mistakes,” he explained.
Alabama’s offensive line will be tested when the Crimson Tide (5-2, 2-2 SEC) takes on No. 21 Missouri (6-1, 2-1 SEC) on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 2:30 p.m. CT at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
