Over their final 10 games, the team converted 78.4% of their attempts, a sharp improvement that underscores their focus on execution. This turnaround has been led by standout performances from Amari Williams and Otega Oweh, two players who have risen to the occasion in critical moments.
Williams, Kentucky’s versatile point center, has shown tremendous growth at the line. Known more for his physicality and rebounding, Williams has added an unexpected weapon to his game. After hitting just 63.9% of his free throws earlier in the season, he has connected on 77.3% of his attempts in recent weeks. His improved accuracy has made him a more complete player and a bigger offensive threat.
Oweh, Kentucky’s dynamic wing, has been equally impressive. Dubbed “Otegatron” by fans, he has hit 83.7% of his free throws over the last 10 games, a significant jump from the 68% he managed early in SEC play. His ability to capitalize at the line has been a critical factor in Kentucky’s late-season surge.
The results speak for themselves. When the Wildcats shoot at least 75% from the line, they boast a 12-3 record overall and a 7-2 mark in SEC play. This correlation between free-throw success and winning bodes well as Kentucky prepares for the SEC and NCAA tournaments.
