Two weeks ago, Kentucky secured a hard-fought victory over Oklahoma thanks to a standout performance by Otega Oweh, who poured in a career-high 28 points, including 23 in the second half. Now, as the two teams prepare to clash again in the SEC Tournament, Oklahoma is coming in with a renewed sense of confidence and a streak of success that has changed their outlook.
The Sooners are riding a three-game winning streak, including a crucial 12-point win over a ranked Missouri team, a four-point road victory at Texas, and an 81-75 triumph over Georgia in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Those results have moved Oklahoma to the right side of the NCAA Tournament bubble, according to Joe Lunardi’s latest Bracketology.
For Oklahoma head coach Porter Moser, his team’s recent performances are proof of their growth and resilience.
“We are a part of [the NCAA Tournament field],” Moser stated confidently after the Georgia win. “People talk about us playing the best basketball down the stretch in our last six games. We’ve shown resiliency, and we’ve earned our spot.”
The Sooners’ resurgence has been fueled in part by freshman sensation Jeremiah Fears. In the victory over Georgia, Fears scored a game-high 29 points and continued his strong form, averaging 21.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists over the last seven games. Alongside Jalon Moore, who had 20 points in their previous matchup with Kentucky, Fears is eager for another shot at the Wildcats.
“When we played them last time, it came down to the last shot,” Moore recalled. “We’re a different team now. It’s going to be a fun and physical game.”
Kentucky, led by Otega Oweh and a balanced offensive attack, is no stranger to high-stakes tournament games. The Wildcats’ depth and experience, including standout performances from players like Lamont Butler and Amari Williams, make them a formidable opponent.
“They’ve got so many offensive weapons,” Moser admitted. “It’s not just one guy you can focus on. Kentucky plays with great spacing, and their motion offense is tough to defend. But we’re ready for the challenge.”
As Oklahoma looks to extend its winning streak and cement its NCAA Tournament status, the rematch with Kentucky promises to be another thrilling chapter in the SEC Tournament. With momentum on their side, the Sooners are determined to prove they’re no longer the same team—and this time, they’re aiming to rewrite the ending.
