Kentucky’s SEC Tournament history is filled with dominance, but recent years haven’t been as kind to Big Blue Nation. That trend seemed to continue until Otega Oweh delivered a thrilling game-winning shot, lifting Kentucky to an unforgettable victory over Oklahoma.
Despite holding a six-point lead late in the game, Kentucky crumbled under Oklahoma’s full-court pressure, surrendering a 7-0 run and falling behind by one. However, Oweh, facing his former team, stepped up in the clutch. With seconds left, he sank a near-identical shot to the one he hit in Norman earlier this season, securing the 85-84 win. His heroic performance saw him score 27 points, just one shy of his career-high.
Beyond Oweh’s buzzer-beater, other Wildcats made key contributions. Koby Brea showcased his sharpshooting with four three-pointers, finishing with 22 points. Andrew Carr played strong defense while adding 11 points and seven rebounds. The victory came despite adversity, including the loss of Lamont Butler to injury in the first half.
Bridgestone Arena was electric, with Big Blue Nation rallying behind their team. For a moment, it looked like they might be denied a matchup with Alabama, but Oweh’s heroics ensured they’d advance to the SEC quarterfinals.
With momentum on their side, Kentucky now turns its focus to a tough test against Alabama. Can they keep the magic alive?
