LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Men’s Basketball team returned to Lincoln on Monday afternoon as champions of the inaugural College Basketball Crown Tournament. The Huskers made history in Las Vegas, winning four consecutive games to secure the Crown trophy and $300,000 in NIL prize money, further solidifying their place among the nation’s elite programs.
In the championship game, Nebraska delivered a dominant performance, defeating UCF 77-66. The Huskers’ offense was on full display, led by standout contributions from Brice Williams, who poured in 21 points, Juwan Gary, who added 20 points, and Connor Essegian, who matched Williams with 21 points. Their combined efforts proved too much for UCF, cementing Nebraska’s championship victory.
“This team showed incredible resilience and determination throughout the tournament,” said Nebraska Head Coach Fred Hoiberg. “Every player stepped up when it mattered most, and we’re thrilled to bring this championship back to Lincoln.”
The Huskers concluded their 2024-2025 season on a high note, finishing with a 21-14 record. The championship marks Nebraska’s second postseason tournament title in program history, with their first being the NIT Championship in 1996.
The path to the title was anything but easy, as Nebraska faced formidable opponents in each round of the tournament. Their run began with a decisive victory over Georgetown, followed by a hard-fought win against Boise State in the semifinals. The team’s grit and determination culminated in their crowning moment against UCF.
The College Basketball Crown Tournament, designed to highlight emerging programs and provide players with additional NIL opportunities, proved to be a perfect stage for Nebraska to showcase its talent and teamwork.
As the Huskers celebrated their victory upon their return to Lincoln, the city joined in the excitement. Fans gathered at Pinnacle Bank Arena to welcome the team home, their cheers echoing the pride felt across Nebraska.
