Kentucky Wildcats center Amari Williams is gearing up to showcase his skills on a bigger stage. The British-born seven-footer has officially received an invitation to participate in the 2025 NBA G League Elite Camp, which is set to take place from May 9-11 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. This prestigious event offers draft hopefuls an opportunity to impress NBA scouts and potentially earn a spot in the NBA Draft Combine, scheduled to follow immediately after.
Jon Chepkevich, Director of Scouting for Draft Express, was among the first to report the news, highlighting Williams’ unique skill set. Known for his rare blend of size, athleticism, and versatility, the 7-foot-6 wingspan center has gained attention as a prospect who can excel on both ends of the floor. Williams averaged 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game for Kentucky during the 2024-25 season, shooting an efficient 56.1 percent from the field.
Despite his impressive collegiate season, Williams narrowly missed an invitation to the NBA Draft Combine, a decision that surprised some analysts. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony ranks Williams as the 63rd-best prospect in the 2025 NBA Draft, and his performance at the G League Elite Camp could provide the springboard needed to boost his draft stock.
“Amari Williams is one of the most intriguing prospects in this draft class,” said Chepkevich. “His combination of passing, defensive versatility, and above-the-rim finishing is something scouts are always looking for.”
The G League Elite Camp is a crucial stepping stone for prospects like Williams. In addition to NBA scouts, executives from all 30 teams will be in attendance, evaluating players for potential draft selections or G League contracts. A standout performance could also result in a coveted invitation to the NBA Draft Combine, which runs from May 11-18 at the same venue.
Williams is not the only Kentucky Wildcat making waves in the pre-draft process. Fellow Wildcats Otega Oweh and Koby Brea have already secured invites to the NBA Draft Combine. Meanwhile, other former Kentucky players, including Jaxson Robinson, Andrew Carr, and Lamont Butler, are still awaiting potential invitations to pre-draft events.
With the NBA Draft set for June 25-26 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, Williams has a golden opportunity to solidify his case as a promising NBA prospect. As one scout put it, “With his talent and work ethic, Amari could be the cherry on top for any team’s draft class.”
