In a poignant moment that encapsulated a storied college football journey, former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Stetson Bennett stood beside the National Championship display at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. The exhibit commemorates Georgia’s back-to-back College Football Playoff National Championships in 2022 and 2023, achievements in which Bennett played a pivotal role.
Bennett’s path to collegiate stardom was unconventional. Initially joining the Bulldogs as a walk-on in 2017, he transferred to Jones College before returning to Georgia. Overcoming doubts and competition, he eventually secured the starting quarterback position. In the 2022 National Championship, Bennett led Georgia to a 33–18 victory over Alabama, earning Offensive MVP honors. He followed this with a commanding performance in 2023, throwing for four touchdowns and rushing for two more in a 65–7 rout of TCU, again being named Offensive MVP .
Despite his on-field successes, Bennett’s eligibility for the College Football Hall of Fame is hindered by existing criteria requiring first-team All-American recognition, an honor he did not receive . Nevertheless, his legacy is firmly entrenched in Georgia football history.
