In a remarkable display of athleticism and spirit, Michigan State University’s cheerleading squad has achieved a historic milestone, earning third place at the International Cheer Union (ICU) University World Cup Championship. This prestigious event, held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida, featured elite teams from eight countries, showcasing the highest levels of collegiate cheerleading talent.

Competing in the Small Coed Game Day Division, the MSU cheerleaders delivered a flawless routine, achieving a “zero deduction” performance—a testament to their precision and dedication. Their routine encompassed the school’s fight song, a situational cheer, and a timeout segment, all executed with impeccable synchronization and energy. This performance not only secured them the bronze medal but also marked the highest score achieved by any NCAA Division II university in the division, solidifying their status as a top-tier program on the global stage.

Under the leadership of head coach Danlee Duncan and assistant coach Lexi King, the team has demonstrated exceptional commitment and resilience. Their journey to the podium is a culmination of rigorous training, strategic choreography, and an unwavering team spirit.

This achievement adds to the rich legacy of Michigan State’s cheerleading program, which has a storied history of excellence. Notably, the 1979 MSU cheerleading team clinched the national championship, a feat that remains a proud moment in the university’s athletic history. (WKAR)

The squad’s success at the ICU World Cup Championship not only brings honor to Michigan State University but also serves as an inspiration to aspiring cheerleaders worldwide. Their performance exemplifies the dedication, athleticism, and school spirit that define collegiate cheerleading at its finest.

As the team returns to campus, they carry with them not just medals and trophies, but the pride of having represented their university on an international stage with distinction. Their accomplishment is a testament to what can be achieved through hard work, unity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
