Nick Saban, widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in college football history, has been announced as the first member of the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame class. The announcement was made during an ESPN College GameDay broadcast ahead of the Cotton Bowl matchup between Texas and Ohio State.
Saban’s remarkable career, spanning 28 seasons, is marked by unparalleled success. With a record of 297-71-1 (.806) overall, including a dominant 206-29 (.877) at Alabama, his impact on college football is undeniable. Saban led his teams to an astounding seven national championships, six of which were secured during his tenure at Alabama, and one at LSU in 2003.
Under Saban’s guidance, Alabama claimed nine SEC Championships, contributing to his total of 11 SEC titles, including two during his time with LSU. His ability to cultivate talent is reflected in the record 52 first-round NFL draft picks coached by him, 47 of which came during his Alabama tenure. In total, 133 of his players were drafted into the NFL.
Saban’s legacy includes coaching four Heisman Trophy winners, tying the record for the most Heisman-winning players under a single coach in college football history. His dedication to excellence and his innovative strategies on and off the field have solidified his reputation as a transformative figure in the sport.
The College Football Hall of Fame induction adds another layer to Saban’s already illustrious career. The official induction ceremony for the 2025 class will take place on December 9, 2025, during the 67th National Football Foundation Annual Awards Dinner at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. In addition to the ceremony, Saban and other inductees will be celebrated at their respective collegiate institutions with Hall of Fame On-Campus Salutes during the fall season.
