Auburn University has secured a major addition to its basketball program with the commitment of Serbian forward Filip Jovic. The 6-foot-9, 20-year-old standout joins the Tigers after four seasons of professional basketball with KK Mega Basket, a club that has produced NBA talents, including Nikola Jokić.
An International Talent
Jovic is ranked as the No. 15 international prospect among NCAA recruits, making him a high-value addition to Auburn’s roster. He brings versatility and experience, having averaged 12 points and four rebounds per game in the Adriatic League, known as one of Europe’s premier basketball competitions. Jovic’s shooting efficiency—57% from the field and 70% from the free-throw line—adds depth to Auburn’s offensive and defensive capabilities.
Impressive Track Record
Over the years, Jovic has consistently demonstrated his skills on the international stage. In the 2022 U17 World Cup, he averaged 12 points and 4.2 rebounds. At the U18 European Championship in 2023, he added 10 points, 5.2 rebounds, and two blocks per game, playing a pivotal role in his team’s championship victory.
Most recently, at the U20 European Championship in 2024, Jovic delivered standout performances, averaging 14.8 points, three rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. FIBA highlighted his abilities as a strong interior presence, effective in pick-and-roll situations, and as a rim protector with exceptional defensive instincts.
Auburn’s Recruiting Success
Jovic’s commitment reflects Auburn’s growing reputation as a destination for international basketball talent. Associate head coach Steven Pearl led the recruitment effort, ensuring Auburn landed one of the most promising young forwards in Europe.
Jovic joins a robust incoming class that includes transfers KeShawn Murphy, Keyshawn Hall, Elyjah Freeman, Kevin Overton, and Emeka Opurum, as well as highly regarded high school signees like Abdul Bashir, Kaden Magwood, Sebastian Williams-Adams, and Simon Walker.
Challenges and Expectations
Although Jovic will miss early offseason workouts due to international commitments, he is expected to arrive before the season begins. Auburn envisions him playing a key role as a “four” man, providing versatility and depth to the roster.
With Jovic in the fold, Auburn now has 11 scholarship players, pending the return of Tahaad Pettiford. If Pettiford does not return, the Tigers may pursue another point guard to round out their roster.
