In a pivotal decision that has energized the Auburn Tigers’ fanbase, standout guard Tahaad Pettiford announced his return to the program for the 2025–26 season, opting to withdraw from the 2025 NBA Draft and continue his collegiate career under head coach Bruce Pearl.
Pettiford, a 6-foot-1 point guard from Jersey City, New Jersey, had a remarkable freshman season, averaging 11.6 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game, earning him a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team. His performance was instrumental in Auburn’s impressive 32–6 record and their journey to the Final Four, where they fell to eventual champions, the Florida Gators.
Initially projected as a potential second-round pick, Pettiford participated in the NBA Draft Combine, showcasing his athleticism with a 42-inch vertical leap and a strong scrimmage performance. Despite receiving interest from NBA teams, including workouts with the Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns, and Atlanta Hawks, he decided to return to Auburn to further develop his skills and improve his draft stock.
With the departure of several key players from last season’s roster, Pettiford’s return is a significant boost for the Tigers.
