The Kentucky Wildcats have officially unveiled their 2025–26 men’s basketball roster, marking a new era under head coach Mark Pope. This season’s lineup blends seasoned veterans, promising transfers, and a resurgence of in-state talent, aiming to restore the Wildcats’ prominence in college basketball.
Returning Stars and Key Additions
Leading the charge is senior guard Otega Oweh, who, after contemplating the NBA Draft, chose to return for his final collegiate season. Oweh was Kentucky’s top scorer last year, averaging over 16 points per game and delivering clutch performances, including a career-high 28 points against Oklahoma.
Joining the roster is transfer forward Jayden Quaintance from Arizona State. The 6-foot-9 sophomore earned Big 12 All-Defensive and All-Freshman honors, averaging 9.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game. His defensive prowess and impressive wingspan have drawn comparisons to Kentucky legend Anthony Davis.
Another notable addition is Serbian forward Andrija Jelavic, a stretch-4 known for his outside shooting and rebounding. Jelavic is awaiting NCAA eligibility clearance and is expected to arrive in Lexington soon.
Emphasis on Homegrown Talent
Coach Pope has prioritized retaining in-state talent, a strategy not seen since the Tubby Smith era. The roster features Kentucky natives Travis Perry, Trent Noah, and Malachi Moreno. Should five-star recruit Jasper Johnson commit to the Wildcats, it would mark the first time in over a decade that four scholarship players from Kentucky are on the roster.
Departures and Roster Turnover
The Wildcats bid farewell to several key players, including Amari Williams, Ansley Almonor, Jaxson Robinson, Lamont Butler, Koby Brea, and Andrew Carr, all of whom have exhausted their eligibility or declared for the NBA Draft. Additionally, guard Kerr Kriisa, who missed most of last season due to a foot injury, is considering a medical redshirt for a potential return.
