OTEGA OWEH: No Regrets—Recommits to Kentucky, Grateful to Big Blue Nation and Hungry for Growth: A Heart That Chose Loyalty—Thank You for Believing in the Blue and for Giving Your All to the Big Blue Nation!

Lexington, KY — In an era where the transfer portal has become a revolving door and professional temptations pull at rising stars, Otega Oweh has made a decision rooted in loyalty, growth, and unfinished business. The explosive wing has officially recommitted to the University of Kentucky, choosing to return for the 2025–26 season instead of pursuing professional opportunities or another school.

Oweh, a 6-foot-5 athletic marvel known for his aggressive slashing, defensive intensity, and high motor, confirmed his decision in a statement that echoed with maturity and gratitude.

“No regrets. I’ve thought it through, and this is where I want to be. I’m returning to Kentucky to keep growing, to keep learning, and to win. I want to thank Big Blue Nation for riding with me—it means everything.”

A Key Piece in the Mark Pope Blueprint

Oweh transferred to Kentucky from Oklahoma, where he began his career as a four-star recruit out of New Jersey. In his first season in Lexington, Oweh provided dynamic energy off the bench, averaging 9.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and shooting an improved 46% from the field. His physicality and two-way potential often gave the Wildcats a spark in critical moments.

Head coach Mark Pope welcomed the news with open arms:

“Otega is the kind of competitor you build around. He brings edge, effort, and a will to improve. Having him back is huge for our culture and our mission.”

    Eyes on Development

Rather than test the NBA Draft waters or chase NIL money elsewhere, Oweh chose the harder road—more practices, more film, more grind. “This is about gaining more experience,” he said. “I want to leave no doubt when I take the next step, and Kentucky is where I’ll get there.”

With a reloaded roster featuring both veteran returnees and top-tier recruits, Oweh’s role in 2025–26 could expand significantly. Coaches expect him to be a defensive leader, vocal presence, and possibly even a team captain.

    A Message to BBN

Oweh ended his announcement with a heartfelt note:

“I’m staying because I believe. I believe in this staff, this program, and in you—the fans who show up every single night. Let’s make this year special. Go Big Blue.”

With his heart in Lexington and his eyes on the next level, Otega Oweh’s return is more than a roster move—it’s a statement. Kentucky isn’t just where he plays; it’s where he belongs.
