EAST LANSING, MI — July 3, 2025 — While the spotlight often shines brightest on basketball and football, the Michigan State University Track & Field team is making its presence known in a thunderous way—quietly building one of the most impressive and well-rounded programs in the country.
The Spartans’ rise to national recognition hasn’t happened overnight. With a carefully cultivated mix of elite recruiting, athlete development, and a championship-driven culture, MSU Track & Field is now making serious waves across the NCAA, earning respect from top-tier programs and governing bodies alike.
A Season of Breakthroughs
The 2024–25 season saw the Spartans break records, win conference titles, and send multiple athletes to the NCAA Championships. Standout sprinters, distance runners, hurdlers, jumpers, and throwers all contributed to a season of extraordinary depth and balance—showcasing that MSU doesn’t just specialize in one event group, but is building a complete and dangerous team.
Among the top performances were:
- Jalen Moore, who blazed to a school-record 400m dash and qualified for the Olympic Trials.
- Ava Richardson, a junior pole vaulter, who became the first Spartan woman in over a decade to clear 14 feet and claim Big Ten gold.
- Marcus Bledsoe, who earned national acclaim for his hammer throw, ranked in the top five nationally all season.
- The women’s 4x100m relay team, which shattered a 20-year-old school record and finished 4th at the NCAA Championships.
A Culture of Champions
Head coach Latasha Henderson, now in her fifth season, has instilled a competitive edge and family-first environment that continues to draw elite talent to East Lansing.
“We’re not just here to compete — we’re here to build something lasting,” Henderson said. “Our athletes believe in each other, they put in the work, and they know what it means to wear Spartan Green.”
National Attention, Spartan Pride
With more than a dozen All-Americans, multiple national qualifiers, and Olympic hopefuls now emerging, the Spartans are turning heads — and earning the kind of respect usually reserved for perennial powerhouses.
As recruiting continues to surge and facilities improve, Michigan State Track & Field is now being mentioned in the same breath as elite programs nationwide.
From the blocks to the podium, the Spartans are sprinting toward greatness — and they’re just getting started.
