East Lansing, MI —In a moment that will be etched in Michigan State University history forever, the Michigan State Cheerleading Team has officially been crowned the No. 1 cheerleading squad in the world by ESPN and recognized by Guinness World Records. The historic honor comes after the Spartans delivered a jaw-dropping, high-energy performance at the 2025 International Cheer & Spirit Showcase in Tokyo, Japan — wowing judges, fans, and fellow competitors from around the globe.
Combining gravity-defying stunts, flawless synchronization, and unmatched Spartan pride, the team showcased a level of athleticism and spirit that transcended traditional cheerleading boundaries. Their routine was more than a performance — it was a statement of heart, unity, and excellence.
Led by Head Coach Alyssa Monroe and assistant coaches Taylor Dean and Marcus Bradley, the team outperformed more than 60 elite squads from six continents. Their winning routine earned a perfect score in the innovation and execution categories, a first in event history.
“What these student-athletes have accomplished is simply incredible,” said Michigan State Athletic Director J. Batt. “They’ve elevated the Spartan name on a global scale and reminded us that excellence at Michigan State knows no bounds — whether it’s on the field, in the classroom, or high in the air.”

Senior co-captain Mia Henderson called the moment “a dream come true.”
“To represent our university, our state, and now the world — it’s beyond words,” Henderson said. “This team is my family, and we left our hearts on that floor.”
