During a recent interview, Izzo humorously recalled a 1995 game where he cited his team grabbing 26 offensive rebounds. The correct number was 24, but the sentiment stuck. “Well, it felt like 30 at the time,” he quipped, smiling. “That’s what we were built on—effort plays, second chances, and doing the dirty work.”
Chris Beard, whose Rebels squad now faces the daunting task of toppling a surging Michigan State team, had nothing but praise for the Hall of Famer. “Tom Izzo is not just one of the best coaches in college basketball—he’s one of the best in the history of the sport,” Beard said. “His teams don’t beat themselves.
