The Tennessee Volunteers recently had a bye week and are now gearing up for the latter part of their regular season. They have an important matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs on the horizon, but first, they must focus on defeating the Kentucky Wildcats.
Kentucky’s season has been inconsistent so far. They had Georgia in a tight spot early in the year, achieved a surprising victory against Ole Miss on the road, and are coming off a loss to Auburn at home. While their defense has performed well at times, their offense has struggled to find its rhythm under transfer quarterback Brock Vandagriff.
This year, Kentucky primarily relies on a run-heavy offense. Although Vandagriff has shown inconsistency, he possesses a strong arm and athleticism, making him a significant mobile threat. Consequently, the Wildcats frequently utilize 12 personnel (two tight ends and one running back) to enhance their running game.
Kentucky has also utilized both Vandagriff and Gavin Wimsatt at quarterback. When Wimsatt is in, Tennessee’s defense should anticipate a run play, as he has completed only 8 of 20 passes this season, indicating a higher likelihood of running the football.
For the Volunteers, getting an early lead would be ideal. Kentucky’s offense struggles when forced to play from behind; they prefer to control the clock and limit opportunities for their opponents.
