🚨 DEREK McINNES UNDER PRESSURE AT RANGERS — COULD THE MANAGER REALLY BE SACKED?
Derek McInnes has found himself at the centre of intense discussion at Rangers following a difficult opening to his reign at Ibrox. Although reports and social-media posts have fuelled speculation about his future, there has been no confirmed announcement that McInnes has been dismissed. Instead, the Rangers manager has responded to mounting pressure with a series of important results.
McInnes arrived at Rangers in June 2026 on a three-year contract after an impressive spell at Hearts. His appointment was seen as an opportunity to bring stability, experience and a strong competitive mentality to a club determined to challenge Celtic domestically.
However, the beginning of his Rangers career was far from straightforward.
Rangers suffered a disappointing European campaign, exiting continental competition after defeats to Jagiellonia Białystok and Jablonec. The setbacks generated considerable criticism, with McInnes himself admitting that the Jablonec defeat had left him “mortified” and “embarrassed.”
The pressure increased because Rangers were also struggling to find consistency in the league. With Celtic establishing an early advantage, questions began to emerge about whether McInnes could quickly turn his new squad into a serious title contender.
Yet the situation has changed dramatically in recent days.
Rangers secured a crucial 1–0 victory away against Aberdeen, giving McInnes his first league win of the campaign and providing some much-needed breathing room.
The improvement continued against Falkirk, where Rangers won 2–1 thanks to two goals from Lawrence Shankland. The striker’s form offered McInnes another major positive as Rangers attempted to recover from their difficult opening.
Then came another narrow victory over Motherwell. Ryan Naderi scored the decisive goal as Rangers secured a 1–0 win, making it three consecutive league victories. Despite missing a penalty and wasting several opportunities, Rangers showed enough resilience to collect another three points.
That run makes any claim that McInnes has already been sacked inaccurate.
Nevertheless, the pressure surrounding Rangers remains understandable. The club expects success, particularly in the Scottish Premiership, and European elimination has placed even greater importance on domestic results. McInnes also faces the challenge of integrating a large number of new players after Rangers made 14 additions during the summer transfer window.
For now, McInnes appears to have bought himself valuable time. Three straight victories have changed the mood around the team and given the manager an opportunity to build momentum.
The coming weeks will therefore be crucial. If Rangers continue winning, the sacking rumours should fade quickly. But if performances deteriorate again, questions about McInnes’ future could return just as rapidly.
For the moment, however, Derek McInnes remains Rangers manager — and the latest results suggest he is fighting back rather than walking out the door.
