Nottingham Forest Monitoring Estevão Willian as Chelsea Frustration Grows
Nottingham Forest are reportedly monitoring the situation surrounding Chelsea forward Estevão Willian, with growing attention on the Brazilian youngster’s limited opportunities under Xabi Alonso. The 19-year-old remains regarded as one of the most exciting young talents at Stamford Bridge, but questions over his playing time have created uncertainty about his immediate future.
Estevão enjoyed an encouraging first season in England, making a significant contribution after arriving from Palmeiras.
However, his role has changed during the early stages of the 2026/27 campaign.
Reports indicate that he has struggled to secure regular Premier League starts, with competition from players such as Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and João Pedro making the attacking positions increasingly difficult to break into.
That situation has reportedly led to concerns within Estevão’s camp. South American football expert Tim Vickery recently described the situation as a genuine concern, particularly because of questions surrounding the youngster’s preferred position and opportunities to play consistently.
Nottingham Forest could therefore see an opportunity. Forest have established a reputation for giving talented players opportunities to develop, and the club’s interest in Estevão would represent an ambitious move. A player with his technical ability, acceleration and creativity could add another dimension to Forest’s attacking options.
The Brazilian is capable of operating from the right wing but can also influence games from more central attacking areas. His ability to carry the ball, beat defenders and create opportunities makes him particularly attractive to clubs looking for a dynamic attacking player.
However, any potential move would be complicated. Estevão remains under a long-term Chelsea contract, reportedly running until 2033, and recent reports suggest Chelsea have no immediate intention of selling him. There have also been reports that the London club could offer him improved contractual terms as they attempt to keep him committed to their long-term project.
Chelsea’s own position is important. Despite the speculation surrounding his playing time, the club continues to view Estevão as a significant part of its future. Chelsea’s official coverage has highlighted his performances and attacking qualities, including a Player of the Match display against Luton Town in the Carabao Cup.
For Forest, monitoring the situation may therefore be more realistic than immediately pursuing a permanent transfer. If Estevão’s lack of regular football continues, the possibility of a loan arrangement could eventually become a subject of discussion, although there is currently no confirmed agreement between the clubs.
The situation remains fluid. Estevão’s future at Chelsea will depend heavily on how Alonso uses him, whether his opportunities increase and whether the player feels he is progressing sufficiently.
For Nottingham Forest, keeping a close eye on developments could be worthwhile. If Chelsea eventually become open to discussions, Forest could potentially emerge as one of the clubs interested in providing Estevão with the regular first-team football that would allow one of Brazil’s highly regarded young talents to continue developing in the Premier League.
